Barb’s Dog Rescue opened its doors in 2001 with one woman’s concern for the thousands of homeless dogs in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.

As word about our shelter has spread, our rescue & sanctuary has expanded.  It’s hard to say no to moms with young puppies or injured dogs who would likely not survive if left on the streets. Once just a small shelter run by Barb alone, we now house nearly 400 dogs and puppies on any given day, with a team of staff and dedicated volunteers. Our facility has expanded into several acres of land...we even have a dog park!

Because there are not enough people looking to adopt in the Puerto Penasco community, we also work in AZ, attending weekly adoption events all over the state.  Please have a look at our adoption calendar, below!

For those that have been severely traumatized, Barb’s Dog Rescue will be their permanent sanctuary, and they will live out their lives knowing they are safe from the challenges of street life.

An Adoption Story To Make You Smile!
Taco--the man, the myth, and the legend, who called Barb's Dog Rescue home for several years, found his people! We miss him at the rescue, but are so happy he found the right fit--it's a Christmas miracle! We know Barb is smiling down on him!
Here's what his new Mom had to say:

Remember Taco??? We adopted him 10/24 a couple of days after Barbs Memorial. He truly was a “Spicy”
Taco & a grumpy old man. Over 22lbs, 9 years old, tried to bite my face (a couple times) no kisses, no snuggles, the most judging looks we have ever seen! Took like 3 weeks but he truly is amazing!! A completely different Taco! The sweetest, most loving, snuggle bug ever!! Loves being brushed, car rides, baths, big fenced in yard with a doggie door, a 12 yr old beagle brother named Buddy (they are bff’s), own bed, snuggle blankets, heated mats, own steps to get onto furniture & our bed & ❤️s chicharrones as snacks. Dislikes pup cups, collars, leash,  clothes & cats. Last check up at 16 1/2 lbs & is settled in his new  & perfectly with our family! One of the best decisions we ever made! Thanks BDR for our Taco!

From Shelter Dog to Movie Star? It might just happen!

We think the dogs in our care have quite a story to tell, and Emmy-award winning host Thomas Baldrick agrees. He recently featured Barb's Dog Rescue in his latest creation, The Rocky Point Podcast.

Please help honor Barb's legacy to save the dogs in Puerto Peñasco. Adopt, volunteer or make a tax-deductible donation.
